sunday : 1:30am

All is quiet and well. We are taking turns in Emily's room. Peg last night, Nicky night before.
Emily is sleeping deep, breathing slow at the moment. A fine sight. Her respiration rate is about 14 per minute. After months of almost always being near 30 most of the time it is a glorious change. Last evening on walk number three. She paused and said, "I am walking along and breathing with a new set of lungs. " I asked he how that felt and with one of big smiles she replied, "good, real good, lets keep walking, I need to get in more laps."

morning to friends of Emily, can't say we are real church goers but I think we will all pause for more than a few minutes of thanks on this day. something pretty powerful is happening.

  1. Emily! It's sounds like you're doing amazing and the power of this whole thing is starting to manifest itself in all kinds of ways. I'm in Prague right now and you're in my thoughts. Looking forward to the day we can go off and see the world together! I love you!

  2. Hi love! Happy Sunday.

Spoke with my mom yesterday and we are both just so proud of you and amazed at your strength. What an incredible thing that you can get these new organs that will make all the difference to your life!

Thinking of you, and counting down the days til I can be there!

  3. Sometimes when you find yourself enjoying the simple things in life, like a daughter sleeping, it can strike you that it ain't all that simple. Maybe that's where the satisfaction comes from. Deep down, we always know how complicated and precious those "simple" things really are.

  4. Good morning all!! Sounds as if things are settling down a bit, getting into some kind of routine. Although there is nothing routine about this whole process. I want to tell you that the whole Cadden family is following this blog and are totally amazed at your courage and determination. Dan's brother-in-law was a respitory therapist and he's been filling us in about all the technical stuff. My prayers today will be that you get your appetite back. You need to keep up your strength so you can do more laps!
Peg, Keith and Nicky, you are in my prayers as well. Remember to take care of yourselves as you take care of Emily.
Look forward to the next great adventure of Emily the Wonder Girl!!!
    love you all so much!!!!

  7. Emily.. little sleeping beauty!!
Your dad is ever near, your mother loves you
dear while Nicky waits to see you shift gears.
The tubes are slowly being removed, the IV's are getting fewer. Your walking, talking and
sounding like your out of "LA LA" land.
There were so many people that asked about you this morning at church. You & your family were
remembered in our prayer time. It is indeed a miracle that science has created so many medical techniques to have the skills to make
those with medical needs be cared for.
You are among the special few that for some reason gives hope to many!!
May you & your family get the rest that you need, You cannot just have jello on a diabetic diet. I know that personally!!
So gear up for good food, you know the kind that we get that tastes like cardboard...LOL
Bye for this time. Sleep well, love lots, & be happy.
    Your Diabetic PAC Buddy!! Willa

  8. Hi Emily,
Henry here. I wanted to say what an amazing time I had visiting with you today. I didn't know what to expect, but I can say I didn't expect to have numerous belly laughs! I also had no idea I was in there for so long! I think your nurse was getting a little annoyed with me. Oh well.
You have all the love and support that John and I can send. And we'll be sending it every day. I promise the first show you make it back too, we'll tear the roof off for you. You truly are an inspiration Emily.
Love, Light, and see you soon. Henry Kammerer

  9. Hi Henry!
I had an awesome time too, and I will also confess that I wasn't sure what to expect either. Having a random surprise visitor set up by my friends of course was enticing and exciting, but also had the potential to be supremely awkward. However it was not, it was wonderful to just sit and chat with you and to be reassured that you didn't think that I was just the crazy Eugene flower chick. ;)
I had only know you thus far as "The Hillstomp Guy." ( your music was brought into my life a couple of years ago by two of my friends who drunkely stumbled upon your stage at the Eugene Celebration and discovered a deep passion for crazy drunken dancing to blue grass music that they were previously unaware of possessing. Within the next few week you guys played in town again at Sam Bond's and they insisted that I come with them to the "most amazing blue grass ever", even though I was in a grumpy mood and didn't want to go out. However, as soon as I saw the banjo and noticed that the majority of the drum set was duct taped together, I thought to myself, "This is going to be awesome").
We had no idea what your names were, and you were dubbed "The Hillstomp Guy" and John was "The Drummer Dude." I did finally figure out your name at some point, but you will always be "The Hillstomp Guy."
However, yesterday I felt as though I was hanging out with Henry. It was nice to see you laugh, and it was nice to laugh with you. I have been unable to laugh freely for many years because the stimulation of laughing would send me into such a violent coughing fit that it just wasn't worth the pain too laugh. But now, with my new lungs being able to laugh is one of the simple pleasures of life that I am taking great delight in.
Thank you for all of the well wishes and love from you and John, taking the time to come by say hello means more than you know. I know going to a hospital as a social call is not most fun thing one could be doing on a Sunday afternoon. Don't worry about the length of your stay, it was more than welcome and the nurse was not at all upset.
I hope you have a beautiful week, and I REALLY look forward to that first concert!! You guys know how to put on a good show. (Vodka and dancing on tables may be required.)
Once more, thank you for making the effort to come by, visitors, cards, flowers, emails, etc. mean a lot these days.
    Paz,
    emily
