feb 17 7:30 am

feb 17.  7:30

good morning. Emily had a good night. remained sedated. She is communicating some, mainly with hand squeezing to respond to our questions. She also opened her eyes for the first time, good to see.  Only took us about ten minutes to sort out she wanted chapstick and mouth swabs. I understood a bed adjustment pretty quick and wash cloth. She of course has serious pain but it is being well managed at the moment. Emily was using sign language to try and tell us something but she was using an alphabet I am not familiar with.
The plan is for an epidural to be placed this morning and then to be extubated afterwards. She will then breathe on her own with her beautiful new lungs. We are just a bit excited and nervous about this.
A team of docs ( they travel in packs in their white coats and most are as good looking as grey's anatomy)  was by and generally very pleased. ICU for today and tomorrow, at least.
Please keep up the e mails and visits to the blog it helps Peg and I a lot and we can feel all of you out there all over the world. We are reading some to Emily even though she is still not quite with us. It was a long but good night. More later. We won't get to many personal replys for sometime but keep stuff coming.
Keith

  3. Reading your entries is so refreshing. Not only is the news fresh and full of hope, but the writer is surprisingly literate and explicit. What a nice assuring style you have Keith. Does that come with a general contractor's license? We are glued to this blog and so appreciate every entry. It makes us feel useful. Keep up the good work bloggers. Blessings Mike and Pam

  6. One suggestion for all the followers: Put a picture of yourself (or whatever, I can just imagine what Chuck will put up) in your profile so when Emily does see this blog for the first time she'll see lots of faces.

  7. Em-Beauty! I am bursting with excitement to be with you. I am pooling up my love and strength for you and sending it in gushes. I am in awe of you. I keep thinking about the conversation that you described to me in the Emily type detail we describe what this process would be like. More then anything i remember the voice you had when you started listing things that this could make possible. You are the strongest soul i know. I know that you can do this. I'll be there as soon as I can be. I'm thinking of you always. I love you. Love to you, Keith, Peg and Nikki. Thanks for the updates and your unbelievable strength.- E2

  9. Hi All!

I just wrote a post but it didn't seem to work... I'm so glad that I can be sitting halfway across the world at my desk and still feel a part of this!

Em - you are so strong! I'm sending all my love your way (My profile pic on FB right now is you and me and Jessie in the christmas tree dumpster when we were about 6...!) and can't wait to see you in a very few short weeks. I'm so excited for that moment that you get to breathe for the first time with your new lungs!

(Oh - and when I get back Emmy and I will bring the burger 'n brew to you (and cooked sushi)!)

Thanks for all the updates Keith! Give Peg and Nicky big hugs from me as well!
