quick post at 7 am 2-18

Emily had a good night with her pain under control. the plan is to walk today. I am writing more but it is taking a while and it seems like folks are watching closely. Keep writing. Emily just asked me to read to her, nothing is too short, redundant or simple and then she really knows you are with her. more soon.
thx keith

  1. Please let Emily know that cranking up the computer to check on her is the first thing I do each morning. Beats brushing my teeth!

I'm so delighted she had a good night and can't believe she's out walking today.

And by the way, pillow talk with Bob last night was all about Em as well!

Much love to this day as always,Sue

  2. Emily,
Good morning!! I do not know if I will be able to see you or not, but I will be in Seattle Friday afternoon, and at least I will visit Peg and Keith. I delighted each day to hear of your news and progress, and am, as always, in awe of your amazing, powerful, beautiful presence. I keep you always in my heart.
    Love,
    your pirate sister, Karen

  3. Dearest Emily, I can't believe they have you up and walking. What a miracle you are. Do you think you'll be able to meet the family of the generous soul who gave you such a wonderful gift? I've also heard that transplant recipients sometimes start craving or liking something they didn't before the surgery, only to find out that their donor liked the same stuff. Maybe you'll suddenly crave ice cream!!
Dan's mother and sister have been praying and spreading the news to their friends. You have alot of people thinking about you and sending nothing but positive energy your way. Stay strong, the scary stuff is behind you. Nothing but blue skies ahead. We haven't heard much about Peg. How is she doing? I bet she's on cloud 8, happy and excited and relieved, yet still worried. We love all of you so much! Keep up the good work!

  9. Good Morning Em, Keith as you make each new post and I read some of the comments its absolutely moving how strong Em is and how much energy there is coming from so many people. However I do hope you are writing down some of the goofy stuff Em is saying while loopy on drugs. These quotes good be a great coffee table read someday in the Monfort house hold. Em I also hope you have your Mom and Nicky scouting out the cute doctors and med students for you. I am sure you will soon be eyeing them your self! Your strength is unmatchable, DK standing by!

  17. Dearest Emily, I cannot wait to take your new lungs for a spin on the dance floor at a Hillstomp concert. No more hot girl with an oxygen tank, now it's just hot girl with a smile on her face!

This is truly inspirational, and thank you to Emily's family for keeping us all updated. I feel blessed to be touched by the story.

  19. Emily, you and your family have of course been in my thoughts since I met you, and now more than ever. Yesterday I was at the doctor's office going through a semi painful/uncomfortable procedure. I kept telling them and myself if "Emily can have a double lung transplant, I can do this!" You are truly an inspiration! It's been a pleasure to get to know you, and I can't wait to see you again for Tuesday night dinners!

  23. Emma,

In your honor and in your stead, I think I'll go have some sushi and peas today, while sitting in a tanning bed drinking grapefruit and pomegranate martinis. Now, keep in mind I am not particularly fond of sushi, I can live without peas, I have recurrent skin maladies from too many years on the river (matter of fact I just got some stitches out today from one such removal!), and I'm a beer guy not a martini guy. So this is a great sacrifice on my part, meant to show we're thinking of you and we're good team players. For your part, we'll expect you to walk today, mind your doctors and nurses, and not boss your folks around too much in your medical delirium. (Oh, never mind that last one. Have at it!)

    We love you,

    Kent et.al.

  24. Well Done, Em! Good on ya! Keith gave us what I think were your first post surgery words after extubation, "Feels Great". I cannot imagine how those first "unclogged" breaths must have felt for you. I've been breathing more deeply myself, each time I read a new blog entry. Beginning when Red Wall Cavern first comes up on the screen and continuing through Keith's words. It's my way of keeping my energy connected to you. It also helps me hold back the tears... It's a beautiful sunny day here in Eugene today. On my morning walk I'll be thinking of YOU taking your "first walk". You have inspired many of us to greater appreciation of the days we can walk and breath freely. Thank you, Em. Know that we are all cheering you on and looking forward to seeing your happy, radiant, sans O2 tube smile soon. Big Hugs to Keith, Peg and Nicky from me and licks and wags from Seamus

Love you, Joan and Seamus the Wonder(ful) dog

  25. Emily,
It is Trever, DK's sister's husband... met you this summer, but have known you for some time through Derek's stories. DK shared the link to your blog with me and I just wanted to let you know that even the very extended fan base is here watching for updates and sending healing thoughts. You are quite the trooper and we all admire your perseverance. Looking forward to hearing about all of your adventures yet to come.
Keith, thanks for keeping us all in the loop. Gotta love the dads that fully embrace the technology.

  26. Hey Em!
    You are Awesome!
And your Dad is right: we're all sitting out here hitting "Refresh" every 5 minutes, waiting to see what amazing thing you do next.
I love that you're pestering the doctors to let you walk before you're even fully coherent - at this rate you'll be back to rock climbing in a few weeks ;)
Keep up the good work, I'm sending happy healing thoughts and I hope the drugs are great.
Can't wait to see Healthy Emily!

  35. You're right Keith, people really are being vigilant about checking the blog many times a day! We do understand you have some pretty big priorities up there so we'll be patient if we have to wait a bit for info! Watch out people in the halls--Emily's coming!! No doubt you'll provide inspiration for people having a hard time getting moving. Pretty soon you'll be snarfing down Lay's potato chips, and make sure they know you only like the original, NOT those baked ones! Keep it up the good work Emily!

  41. Hello Emily, Keith and Peg - Wow! We are just amazed what all has transpired since Monday! This morning I was waiting while Dave had a 'Kulongowski' (that's what he's been calling it - a routine colonoscopy) and who should walk by - no other than Chuck Bailey. We were chatting away and I said we've been enjoying reading your emails and marveling at your courage. Little did we know that you had already been called and had the transplant! (Away from email a few days and look what happens!) Last email we saw you were just listed. Chuck forwarded the link to your blog when he got back to the office and we are so happy to be able to follow your progress. Holy cow that was fast and we're just amazed that you are walking already. I immediately forwarded the link to Grace back in DC and you'll no doubt be hearing from her. She immediately called and said she couldn't keep her mind on work because your courage about everything kept making her cry. You are truly amazing! I've rambled on too long - but will email again. Love to your folks and know there are so many people who care about you and are wishing you strength through the painful recovery. Love, Duane Funk and family
