A quick posting with just a little news. At the moment a team of docs from pain management is preparing Emily to place an epidural block to help control her pain when she is taken off the ventilator and the tubes removed. When that is done she can no longer be on the heavy sedatives that have kept her so quiet. Those meds would suppress her respirations. Once the epidural is placed she will do a trial bit of breathing on her own and then be extubated. Then breathing on her own.
That is going to be a big moment so send some extra thoughts this way for the rest of the day.
This procedure will probably be quite painful for her because she will have to be repositoned.

Hang in Keith and Peg, sending her strength and big fresh breath!

Hello from Tallahassee, Florida-
ReplyDeleteI was really busy yesterday and didn't get a chance to check your blog. Wow, I am so pleased to learn of the progress you have made, Emily. I promise you that you'll be forgiven for your uncharteristic behaviors.
Last night a severe thunderstorm rolled through in the early morning hours which brought a tornado to a small town not far from Tallahassee. Maggie, our 4-legged family member, alerted me to the bad weather. Nice to have lookout!
FSU's Baseball season opens up tomorrow against Hofstra. You may not know it, but I work for the baseball team as well as the Men's and Women's Golf teams. The baseball coaches keep using the rebuilding word to describe this year's team. You never know. No one thought that we'd make it to the College World Series last year, but we did.
I better get to work, but not before I send my love and very best wishes. Hugs, Cathy Benton
